“Participation in the UNO Global compact will enhance status of Russian companies”
The Secretary General of the United Nations Organization, Pan Gi Mun at the meeting with representatives of business community in Moscow announced the establishment of the UNO Global compact, participation of which will promote the new status of Russian companies.
“The launch of the Russian Global Compact Network means, that Russian companies join many companies around the world, which follow ten principles of the global compact, including respect for human rights, environment protection, corruption combating, creation of good working conditions, elimination of labour and employment discrimination – cites RIA News Pan Gi Mun. – It (joining the Global compact) will contribute to the growth of labour productivity and the new status of Russian companies in Russia and the world”.
According to the opinion of the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexandr Yakovenko, the Russian companies’ joining the Global compact will positively influence the development of Russian economy.
“I believe that the Global compact is a good basis for social responsibility of business and will positively influence development of Russian economy”, – said Alexandr Yakovenko.
The Deputy Foreign Minister noted, that the number of companies and organizations, which have joined the Global compact Russian in recent years, is growing rapidly. “I think that Russia will soon, if not become a leader in this area, it will be very well represented in the Global compact,” – he added.
“The UNO is not a place, where the contracts are signed, but it is a good platform for expansion of contacts and exchange of best experience in complying standards, which includes the Global compact”, – said Alexander Yakovenko.
The Global Compact is not a mechanism of regulation: it is not engaged either in any “supervision”, or in compulsion, or assessment of the behaviour or actions of companies. Instead, the Global compact relies on public accountability, transparency and enlightened policies of companies, workers and civil society to protect its own interests in order to initiate and share practical measures, aimed at implementing the Global compact principles.
